5 tips to protect your organisation against cyber attacks
How can organisations protect themselves against cyber attacks? Learn about our five tips!
All organisations risk facing cyber attacks that can damage their bottom line and image. Regardless of their size and industry, organisations are strongly advised to implement certain measures to limit the risk of cyber attacks. Ercom, a specialist in securing communications, presents five of them!
- Train employees in cyber security
In an organisation, cyber security must be everyone's business. This is why raising awareness and even train employees is vital. Employees need to be able to identify the signs of a cyber threat (phishing, ransomware...), but also demonstrate good habits to protect their organisation's data:
- Never disclose passwords
- Frequently change passwords
- Lock computers when they leave their workstations
- Use secure tools provided by their organisations
- …
- Update security systems regularly.
To protect their business, organisations need to implement a whole range of data protection systems: antivirus, firewall, anti-malware... But to be effective, these systems need to be updated regularly, through security patches for instance.
- Backup data regularly
Ransomware is one of the biggest cyber threats, taking an organisation's data hostage. To recover their data, organisations must pay a ransom. By regularly backing up data and storing it on an external platform, akin to a secure cloud, organisations can recover all of their data without having to pay a ransom.
- Limit access to sensitive data
Not everyone in an organisation need to access the same level of data. By segregating access to data, you limit entry points and, consequently, the risk of intrusion. You also limit insider risk: keep in mind that cyber attacks can also come from people inside the organisation.
- Control remote connection points and all mobile devices
With telecommuting becoming the norm, connection points outside an organisation are multiplying. To work remotely and access their organisation's network, remote employees can use Internet connection points that are not always secure (residential connection, public Wi-Fi, 4G or 5G connection...). They all represent entry points for cyber criminals.
To secure mobile work, organisations need to equip all their mobile devices (smartphones, laptops, tablets, etc.) with VPNs and/or secure encrypted communication tools.
Ercom supports you by securing all your communication devices and limiting the risk of cyber attacks on your organisation.
