German industrial giant ThyssenKrupp targeted in a new cyberattack

On December 21, 2022, German industrial engineering and steelmaking giant ThyssenKrupp AG announced that its Materials Services division and headquarters had been hit by a cyber attack believed to have come from an organised crime group. At the moment no claims have been published and no data has been shared on the type of attack that was used. However, Thyssen has stated that no data was stolen and no damage to systems was caused. The impact of this attack seems to be minor for the moment if we believe the company's communiqué. Indeed, no financial or reputational consequences have yet been published. Although no details have been released, if Thyssen is claiming that the attack is likely to have come from organised crime it is likely that the attack was a ransomware attack, the most common attack for this type of organisation or group.
