Attack exposes Hyundai car owners in France and Italy

According to a report dated April 13, 2023, Hyundai has confirmed that a data breach affected car owners in France and Italy, as well as people who booked test drives with Hyundai vehicles.

Personal data such as email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers and vehicle chassis numbers were revealed. No financial data or identification numbers were stolen.

Hyundai has hired incident response specialists and warned customers to be cautious in checking attempts to contact them by email or SMS. It is not known how many customers were affected, how long the network hack lasted and whether other subsidiaries were targeted. Hyundai has recently experienced other cyber security issues, including emergency software updates for several car models and bugs in the Hyundai app.

This possible data theft could have a significant impact on Hyundai customers in France and Italy as their personal information could be used for fraudulent purposes such as identity theft, spam, phishing etc.

Affected customers may also suffer a loss of trust in the brand and its security practices, which could lead to a drop in sales of Hyundai cars in these countries. It is therefore important for Hyundai to take additional security measures to protect its customers' personal data and regain their trust.
