Cyber attack against Maldegem: data of thousands of PSWC recipients published

Cyber criminals managed to break into the computer system of the Public Welfare Centre of Maldegem (province of East Flanders) in July and stole the personal data of thousands of citizens. This was announced by the municipality on its website on Friday. The hackers asked the authorities to pay a ransom in bitcoins. But this was refused by the municipality, which also warns its residents to be careful if they receive dubious emails or phone calls.
