Hacker attacks on NRW universities will change the cybersecurity doctrine
According to a report dated April 1, 2023, following the various cyber attacks concentrated on universities in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, with considerable damage to some of them, the regional government has decided to support the universities with around 41 million euros to improve their cyber security.
The money comes from a special fund for dealing with the consequences of the war in Ukraine. Universities can use the money to strengthen their IT security, such as two-factor authentication, buying better firewalls or creating contingency plans. The regional government also wants to set up a network between universities to regularly monitor the cyber security of all universities in the region.
