Residents of Vijfheerenlanden may be victims of data breach

According to an information dated August 23rd, 2023, personal data of thousands of residents of the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden may have been stolen by hackers, although the exact nature of the stolen data is not yet known.

In 2022, the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden collaborated with the policy research agency Dimensus to conduct the "Monitor Social Power" study, inviting around 7,500 residents of the Utrecht municipality to participate. It's unclear how many people actually responded to this invitation.

To conduct the study, Dimensus used software from Nebu B.V., a software supplier from Wormerveer. In late March, this company announced that hackers had infiltrated their internal systems and stolen a significant amount of data.

The municipality of Vijfheerenlanden could be among those affected by the theft of privacy-sensitive data. According to the municipality, data like names, addresses, place of residence, phone numbers, ages, and genders could have been stolen in the cyberattack. No passwords, answers to questions, or financial data were taken, the municipality emphasized.
