What is cloud computing?

Public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud: What are the differences?

There are three types of clouds: private, public or hybrid cloud. 

Public cloud

The public cloud provides access to a cloud computing solution directly managed and maintained by a service provider. It provides access to services that are shared with other users. In simple terms, with the public cloud, you are a “tenant" of your workspace in the cloud. 

It is a solution that is quick to implement, requires little technical knowledge, and is relatively affordable in terms of cost. The public cloud is therefore well suited to fast-growing start-ups. 

Private cloud

For its part, the private cloud allows an organization exclusive private use of the resources offered by a cloud provider. This private cloud can be hosted by the organization itself (on-premises) or outsourced to datacenters. In any case, the private cloud is entirely managed by the organization deploying it. The organization must maintain the system but can also optimize and customize it.

The private cloud is ideal for organizations wishing to customize their interfaces and achieve a very high level of security, as it enables them to perfectly control access for different users. 

Hybrid cloud

Finally, the hybrid cloud is a solution that combines a private and a public cloud. It ensures seamless and automatic migration between clouds based on workloads and user authorizations. 

The hybrid cloud enables organizations to benefit from a secure, personalized cloud space, while taking advantage of the features, services and upgrades developed by the service provider.
